Greenhouse Effect.
Spring in Indiana's a couple months away, but CatMatt thought they'd try to make it happen a bit earlier this year, so they're attempting starters in the bay window for the very first time. This was/is one happy project. Highly recommended. (And you can double that recommendation if it actually works.)
CatMatt came across these fabulous little mini greenhouses at Lowe's on Sunday. They bought two, along with 6 seed packets (mostly flowers, and some basil). The cats, as always, were intrigued:
Each little greenhouse contains 72 "dehydrated" peat pellets that you gradually hydrate (dehydrated, top; hydrated, bottom):
Once hydrated, you pull back the mesh and sow 2-3 seeds for each:
Then, you cover and let them get all steamy and happy in the sun:
Then, you watch obsessively every day after work until you've sprouted approximately 144 plants?

Jane Honda: The End of An Era
So, a few days before Cat's 16th bday, her parents gave her (blessed/spoiled) the biggest surprise of her life: sweet, cherry red goodness: Jane Honda. Over the past twelve years, this little car has accompanied Cat through high school in Omaha, college in St. Louis, grad school in Austin, and a move across the country to Indiana. Cat (now considerably closer to 30 than 16) says goodbye to a dear friend.
Hello. Jane Honda, 1997:
